An Edwardian-gothic pen-and-ink picture book as a 16:9 presentation on stark white paper: one fine near-black ink for every line, letter and tone; scratchy crosshatched drawings of lamplit streets, gates, courtyards and stairways hung beside the type as oval cartouches and keyline prints; white plates lifted out of crosshatch grounds by hatched drop shadows; iron rules and ruled frames with finials; engraved display numerals; near-black hatched grounds with reversed white type for act breaks; one odd cutout object as an emblem. Strictly monochrome — emphasis is solid ink, never colour. Whimsical, dry, lightly macabre; never spooky-cheap.
